Restaurant Creates a Fresh Design with Open Garage Door Concept

Wauseon, OH – The famous quote from Alexander Graham Bell, “When one door closes, another door opens,” applies to Northport Pub & Grille in Michigan. That’s because, after an extensive year-long renovation, the local restaurant and bowling alley added eight Haas garage doors to open up and create a fresh, new design for their structure.

The team from Hallzy’s Garage Door in Thompsonville, MI installed the eight Haas CA-320i Series garage doors. Each commercial-grade aluminum garage door features ½-inch low e/dark gray glass with a black anodized frame and black hardware. The garage doors have tongue-and-groove joints with bulb seals to meet the requirements for air infiltration tested to ASTM E283-04. In addition, the rails are insulated with polystyrene and feature rail end caps.

“The garage doors complement the building structure,” says Priscilla Sherwood, general manager of Northport Pub & Grille in Northport, MI. “As far as looks, the striking all-glass garage doors pulled everything together. Our guests really love the fresh air plus the ability to walk right outside into our fenced-in patio area.”

Reinventing a Restaurant

New owners took over the previous Tucker’s restaurant in 2020. They decided the seven-year-old restaurant needed an overhaul. So, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, they shut down and started over. They added newly-designed areas for merchandise sales, a bar, a pool and dart board location, and event space.  Sherwood, who also served as the previous general manager at Tucker’s, says the garage doors have added a more inviting atmosphere to the building.

“There are five garage doors in the dining room that open up to the patio,” says Michelle Hemeyer, co-owner of the restaurant. “Then there are another three garage doors located in the event space. This allows people to have the option of renting both indoor/outdoor space for their expanded parties.

“Given the concerns on COVID-19, we’re finding the garage doors are a lifesaver for our business. We have people call and ask specifically to sit outside. They want the garage doors open. Even those people sitting inside appreciate the fresh air coming through our building with the open garage doors.”

Creating an Open Concept

According to Sherwood, the black anodized finish on the Haas 320i garage doors was selected to match the interior ceiling of the structure, giving the restaurant’s design a modern edge. Low e/dark gray glass was chosen so that, when closed, people could easily see through the glass without having the sun beating down on them at the same time.

“The garage doors give the restaurant an open concept feeling,” says Sherwood. “They provide a wonderful air flow when open and give our guests easy access from inside to outside. Overall, the Haas garage doors give the building a welcoming look and have helped create a more inviting atmosphere to the building. They’ve been a huge hit with our customers.

“Operating a restaurant in today’s marketplace is a hard business. By renovating this structure and using the Haas garage doors, the owners have breathed new life into this business.”
