Award-Winning Acoustic Design: Summumstudio’s Cell® Takes 2026 iF Design Award
A sustainable, cutting-edge system that merges interior architecture, industrial design, and acoustic engineering.
The Spanish studio Summumstudio has been awarded the 2026 iF Design Award for Cell® Modular Acoustic System, a system developed for the company Ideatec, specialised in acoustic solutions. This international recognition highlights a solution that integrates acoustic conditioning, flexibility and spatial organisation within contemporary interior architecture.
Cell® is an architectural system whose configuration allows it to be installed on suspended ceilings and vertical enclosures, providing effective acoustic control solutions that integrate visually within the space. The system is based on a modular structure capable of generating multiple configurations, creating open compositions and flexible spatial distributions within the same environment.
The system’s design also responds to criteria of material efficiency and production optimisation. Cell® is developed from standard-format recycled PET panels, from which a series of modular strips are obtained through precise cutting processes that maximise material use while minimising waste generation.
The pieces are assembled through a clip-type joint system, facilitating installation and enabling different spatial configurations depending on the needs of each project.
The iF Design Award, organised by iF International Forum Design, is one of the most prestigious international awards in the field of design. Each year it recognises outstanding projects for their innovation, functionality and formal quality, evaluated by an independent international jury composed of industry experts.
The development of Cell® reflects Summumstudio’s way of working, based on the coordinated control of architecture, interior design, product design and branding. This interdisciplinary approach makes it possible to conceive solutions in which design, technology and spatial experience are developed in an integrated way from the earliest stages of the project. The recognition of the 2026 iF Design Award therefore reinforces the studio’s trajectory in the field of design applied to architecture and its ability to develop proposals that connect architecture, industrial design and technological innovation.
