AIM Research Validates Pandemic’s Impact on Social Media Use by Professions

Accountability Information Management, Inc. (AIM), a leading B2B research company, recently published a new AIM Snapshot research on the impact COVID-19 pandemic has on use of social media for business. The study found that the majority of building professionals indicate the COVID-19 pandemic has some impact on their use of social media and online platforms.

During the pandemic, without the ability to meet in person, professionals used social media and other online platforms to communicate with clients, vendors or to find information. The AIM research revealed the majority or 66% of building professionals indicated the COVID-19 pandemic had “some” impact on their use of social media — 40% indicating it had a high impact.

Social media for business is a critical part of the way people communicate and a key part of how work gets done. Today, more than ever, they help expand your network by finding and connecting with relevant professionals in your industry. For example, the AIM research showed that more architects and interior designers said COVID-19 had an impact on their social media use than facility managers or engineers.

“The pandemic transformed how we work in so many fundamental ways,” says Patty Fleider director of research at AIM. “One is how the pandemic has affected our use of social media for work. And that’s understandable. The data from our research, conducted during the height of COVID-19 (January 2021), confirms more and more building professionals are getting comfortable with using social media to stay connected and to find information they need for their job.”

For this study, AIM surveyed architects, interior designers, engineers and facility managers. The survey was conducted on-line in January 2021. Overall response was 153 completed surveys.
